The first time I heard “Ender’s Game” was being made into a movie was when I saw the trailer in the theater. I watched the trailer thinking that the story sounded familiar. It wasn’t until they said the main character’s name that I realized it was the film adaptation of “Ender’s Game,” a best-selling novel. I had read the book years ago and was excited to see it finally making its movie debut.

The trailer depicts the movie as a typical action-packed sci-fi thriller. Earth is in a future war against aliens where we must create a super soldier to have any chance at defeating them. After seeing the movie, you will realize there is way more depth and thought to the plot. The trailer was definitely designed to hook people who had never read the novel on the idea of a sci-fi action movie. As the movie’s release date approached, the trailers started to show the depth to the story. They stopped playing so heavily on all the action and more on the story. The timing of the trailers progressed from hooking the adrenaline junkies to attracting the people who were looking for a movie that had a plot not just a bunch of explosions and violence.

To advertise this movie they pulled out all the stops. They created a website, a Facebook page, a Twitter account, an Instagram account, a Tumblr blog, a Google+ account, and a Youtube account. If there was a medium to reach people they used it. All of the sites posted similar if not exactly the same things. One interesting thing they did though was reach out to well-known Youtuber, PewDiePie, to get nonconventional advertising.  They invited him to Los Angeles to get a behind the scenes tour and to go to the movie premiere. He vlogged(video logged) the whole experience and put it on his Youtube channel.  He expressed his thoughts about the movie and told his viewers they should go support the movie. On Youtube, he has over 16 million subscribers and each video he posted about “Ender’s Game” got about 2 million views each. Taking this approach they tried to reach people with more of a personal approach.

In my opinion, the movie was good and did the book justice. With the advertising, I feel like they spread out too much with the social media outlets. I don’t think there was a need for seven different outlets posting primarily the same stuff.
